Dagga Boys publishes rates on one consistent basis: six paying guests. That number stays fixed when the right camp sleeps eight or ten. The full private-camp cost is divided by six, not by every bed the property could hold.

What “private” means in the price

A private safari may include exclusive use of the camp or house, a vehicle reserved for your group, a dedicated guide, planned meals, local road transfers and trip preparation. Each supplier structures its rates differently. Some price by person, some by room and some by the full property.

This is why a quick room-rate comparison can mislead. A lower room rate may sit beside shared vehicles, fixed drive times, shared dining or no exclusive-use arrangement. The Dagga Boys proposal states which parts of the journey belong only to your group.

The six-paying-guest rule

Take a simple fictional example. A private camp costs US$30,000 for the chosen stay. With six paying guests, the accommodation share is US$5,000 per person before the other agreed components are added.

If the camp has ten beds, we do not divide US$30,000 by ten and advertise US$3,000 per person. There are still six paying guests. The per-person accommodation share remains US$5,000.

A bigger camp gives the group more space. It does not create four imaginary travellers to lower the advertised rate.

Why an eight- or ten-place camp can cost more

The best camp for a six-person group may have eight or ten places. It might offer better privacy, a stronger guide arrangement, easier room access, a better location or the right mix of shared and private space.

Exclusive use means the unused rooms are still part of the property you have reserved. The supplier cannot sell them to another party. The group pays for that privacy, then shares the full cost across the six travellers who are paying.

These figures are a planning starting point. They are not a promise that every camp, date and inclusion can be supplied at the same amount.

What can move the final figure

The written quote can change with:

  • High, shoulder or lower travel season.
  • The selected reserve, camp and room arrangement.
  • Exclusive-use minimums set by the supplier.
  • Conservation levies, tourism taxes and park fees.
  • Private vehicle, guide and tracker arrangements.
  • Meals, beverages and dietary needs.
  • Road transfers or regional flights.
  • Chosen local activities and specialist hosts.

What the proposal should show

A useful safari proposal makes comparison possible. It names the camp, reserve, stay length, occupancy basis, vehicle arrangement, guide role, transfers, meal plan, beverages, levies, activities, payment schedule and cancellation terms.

Ask whether the price includes exclusive use. Ask who guides the vehicle. Ask which transfers are included. Ask whether the host is present for the full stay or selected days. A single total without these details is hard to judge.

What happens if the group changes

If the number drops below six, the fixed camp and vehicle costs are shared by fewer people. The per-person price rises. If the group grows beyond six, room limits, vehicle capacity and supplier rules need a fresh check.

We keep the public basis at six so the first figure is consistent. The final quote uses the real travelling party and the actual supplier terms.

The point of transparent pricing

A private safari should feel personal, not vague. The six-person basis gives every visitor the same starting calculation. The proposal then shows where the money goes and why a chosen camp costs what it does.
